Welcome to the Burger Tours website

We are a small group of family, friends, and neighbors in search of a good burger and a social experience. 

And while this site was designed and constructed for our purposes, we sincerely hope that you find some value or enjoyment from visiting (or both!).

Purpose:

Our goal is to find the best local burger stands, and to provide an opportunity to get together socially with our family, friends, and neighbors.  Our excursions and their results can be followed on this website. 

History of The Burger Tour:

Burger Tours is an extension of a sister-venture called Barbecue Tours (bbqtours.org), which started in 1999 with a small group of close-knit friends deciding to take a road trip to eat barbecue, drink beer, and re-affirm long-standing friendships.  

Somewhere around 2008, my (then) 8-year old son began saying: "Dad, you know how you do the Barbecue Tour all the time? Well, I want to do a Cheeseburger Tour" ...and the idea of the Burger Tour was born! 

From that point, it was "Dad, when can we do the cheeseburger tour?", or "Dad, are we ready to do the cheeseburger tour yet?". Until summer of 2009, when we put together a plan (and a website) to tackle his cheeseburger challenge.

A few points about the burger tour:

  • It is family friendly 
  • It supports local businesses
  • Each family is responsible for their own costs, and we favor value-oriented joints 
  • It is inclusive - we want you to join us for meal, even if you are not interested in sharing your opinions on the website

Rules of Engagement:

  • Each participant will be armed with an appetite & a desire to share their opinion.
  • We want to ensure a representative sampling of the available menu items.  To facilitate that objective (when possible), we will:
    • Order plates to share with other participants
    • Order individual side items to share among the group

Evaluation (if you want to rate burger joints with us):

Each Burger joint will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Main Fare 45% - consists of the primary/featured burger(s)
  • Other Fare 25% - consists of secondary offerings, plus sides, drinks, & dessert items
  • Atmosphere 30% - an overall impression score consisting of history, location, building, grill/kitchen, serving style/process, service & hospitality, value for the money, decor, plates/napkins/utensils, tables

Each participant will score against the above criteria on a scale of 1-10 stars, with a score of 10 being the best.
